CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT ROBERT B. KNIGHT
Chief Master Sergeant Robert B. Knight is the twelfth Command
Chief Master Sergeant for the Mississippi Air National Guard
assigned to the Joint Force Headquarters, Mississippi Air National
Guard in Jackson Mississippi. Chief Knight is responsible for advising
ANG commanders and staff on mission effectiveness, professional
development, military readiness, training, reviewing promotion,
retention, utilization, health, morale, welfare and assignment policy
affecting over 2,300 plus enlisted personnel; conducting counseling
and interviewing sessions through a visitation program to 29 units;
and identifying issues and recommending action directly to
commanders. He maintains liaison between the enlisted personnel,
the Adjutant General and the Assistant Adjutant General for
Air/Commander, Mississippi Air National Guard.
Chief Knight resumed responsibility as the State Command Chief
Master Sergeant for the Mississippi Air National Guard on December
6, 2014.
Chief Master Sergeant Knight was born January 6, 1960 in Mobile,
Alabama. Chief Knight enlisted in the Mississippi Air National Guard in December 1979 and served as a
Crew Chief. After completion of an Associate Arts Degree from Meridian Community College in May

1982, Chief Knight was hired as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist Technician with the 186 Tactical
Reconnaissance Group in April 1985. Upon unit conversion to the KC-135R, Chief Knight cross trained as
an In-Flight Refueling Operator at Castle Air Force Base, California in November 1991. In February 1994
Chief Knight attended Combat Flight Instructor Course at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, and was
assigned to the Orderly Room for the 153 Air Refueling Squadron. Chief Knight also worked as a Current
Operations Flight Planner, Chief Enlisted Instructor In-Flight Refueling Training Flight, and Wings
Standards and Evaluations Senior In-Flight Refueling Evaluator. He has participated in Operations
ICELAND ALERT, DENY FLIGHT, ALLIED FORCE, JOINT GUARD, JOINT FORGE, NORTHERN
WATCH, SOUTHERN WATCH, NOBLE EAGLE, ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM and
PROJECT LIBERTY. During these operations, Chief Knight planned and executed combat and
humanitarian operations in support of national interests in Iceland, Italy, Spain, France, Turkey, Germany,
Cypress, Ecuador, Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2008, while continuing to maintain mission ready qualification
in the KC-135R aircraft, Chief Knight was instrumental in standing up the Air Forces initial MC-12W
Manned Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Training Squadron at Key Field Air National
Guard Base, Meridian, Mississippi as the Detachment Wings Standards and Evaluations Senior Sensor
Operator Evaluator in June 2009. He continued to instruct in both the KC-135R and the MC-12W until
both aircraft departed Key Field in March 2011. Upon unit conversion to the C-27J aircraft, Chief Knight
completed Initial and Instructor Loadmaster Qualification training at Robbins Air Force Base, Georgia in
December 2011. He maintained mission ready Instructor and Evaluator status in the C-27J aircraft and
was assigned the Chief Enlisted Instructor Loadmaster Training Flight until the unit again converted to the
KC-135R aircraft in July 2013, at which time Chief Knight re-qualified as an In-Flight Refueling Operator

Instructor and Evaluator in the KC-135 aircraft and was assigned as the 186 Operations Group
Superintendent.
