WHAT IS WINLINK
Winlink 2000 is the project of Amateur Radio Safety Foundation Inc
Worldwide Messaging System with redundant servers
Supports:
 Email and attachments of less than 120,000 bytes
 ICS 213
 Pictures
 Scanned documents
 APRS
 Weather Bulletins
 Message Relay
USES
RMS – Radio Message Server - Gateway stations that bridge Winlink user radios to internet
email via CMS (Common Message Server) servers
Does NOT replace internet email, but can serve as a backup of e -mail services
Interconnection services for amateur radio




HF – RMS Hubs anywhere in the world
VHF/UHF – Local RMS Hub
Telnet – Over the internet
WebMail – Over the internet

Complement PACTOR HF modes
Soundcard (SignalLink, RIGblaster) to radio interface
ARQ speeds up to 1300 bits/second
Fully documented and no license restrictions
Supports both peer-to-peer and hubs
PACKET (AX-25)
Uses TNC (Terminal Node Controller) or packet modem
 Separate device connected serially
 Some radios have a built in TNC

On VHF – most common is 1200 AFSK
Custom rates of 19.2, 56k and 1.2 Mbits/ permitted on 440 and above

Monitors all APRS traffic and watches for special commands
Position Reporting and short messages of up to 64 characters
