December 2014
LRCH’s Semester Exam schedule is printed on the attached December
calendar. All students will be dismissed at 1:00 pm during the week of semester exams. The
cafeteria will serve lunch from 1:00-1:30 pm. Students with their own transportation may leave
the building after their second exam. Buses will leave at 1:30 pm. Because of DAYTIME
CURFEW, students are not allowed to be at the malls and other public places during the
school day. Students may not visit other schools without the permission of the building
administrator. Please discuss the importance of semester exams with your child. The final
exam is weighted 20% of your child’s semester grade. Only semester grades are recorded
on your child’s official transcript, so it is VERY important that students study hard and
perform well. We had a meeting on November 18, 2014 with all freshmen to explain the
semester exam process. Report Cards will be distributed to students on Tuesday, January
20, 2015.

AIP Literacy Remediation packets have been distributed to students. The packets
included a letter to parents, an instruction page, and your child's AIP document that you
are asked to sign and return to Ms. Bankston. Students are able to work on the online
assignment from home and should complete Unit 1 to satisfy graduation requirements.
If your child has not received a packet or if you have questions and/or concerns, please
contact Ms. Brenda Bankston, Literacy Coach by email brenda.bankston@lrsd.org or
call 447-1603. Parental participation in the AIP remediation process for Literacy is
welcomed.

Academic Improvement Plan (AIP) Remediation Program for Biology End-ofCourse Exams – Parents, if you received a letter regarding your child’s AIP, your child
MUST complete remediation in order to receive credit for the Biology course, regardless
of the grade they received for the course. Letters were mailed during registration and
packets were sent home during the first nine weeks of school. Seniors who fail to
complete their AIP will not receive a diploma. Parents of seniors may contact Mrs.
Melissa Donham (melissa.donham@lrsd.org) to inquire if the student has completed the
process. For other inquiries, please contact Beth Davis at 447-1413.

It is time for PTA Reflections again! The theme this year is “The world would be a
better place if…..” Reflections is a national PTSA program that gives students the
opportunity to express themselves in the arts. There are six categories in which
students may enter: literature, visual arts, photography, music composition, film
production, and dance choreography. Students may enter in more than one category
and submit more than one entry in any category. Any work done since the end of last
school year is eligible. All entries are due in the Central office no later than 4:30 p.m. on
Monday, December 8th. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Sudha
Bande, PTA Reflections Chair, at sribande@gmail.com.
Science Fair: Please encourage students to register January 6 and 7 through their
science teacher. Science Fair will be held Friday, February 6, 2015. Thank you in
advance to Beverly English who will be our lead hostess for this HUGE undertaking and
to Jonathan Semans for assisting with the recruiting of judges.
Seniors are reminded that ALL college and scholarship applications with a January due
date that require a letter of recommendation from a counselor must be given to the
counselors by Friday, December 5, 2014 as noted in our November letter. Students
will not be able to access transcripts over the holiday break.
Cookbooks: The Family and Consumer Science Department has commemorative
cookbooks for friends and family on your shopping list. The cookbooks are $20 each
and can be purchased from Ms. Annitha Austin (annitha.austin@lrsd.org or 447-1619).
LRCH wants to share with others – Once again, the Guidance Office is sponsoring a
Giving Tree this year. We will choose families connected to LRCH and provide them
with a wonderful holiday season. Please contact Ms. Valerie Miles in the Guidance
Office with any questions.
The Central High Tigers Apparel and More Store is open for Christmas shopping!
(All proceeds support our Senior class.) Order your Tiger gear at
www.LRCHTigers.com.
SUMMER PLANS: The current school calendar calls for Thursday, June 4, 2015 to be
the last day of school. Please recall the past challenges with our school year being
extended due to winter weather and school cancellations. Please DO NOT make
summer plans early in June. Semester exams are going to be the last four days of
school. All students must take exams as scheduled. Thank you for your flexibility since it
is always out of our control!
I want you all to know how fortunate and proud I am to be the principal of the best high
school in America! Thank you for sharing your children with the exceptional faculty and
staff at LRCH. It is here where we have the opportunity to work with your children and you
to promote the success of ALL our children. Please remember that my door, phone, and
email remain open for your questions and concerns at nancy.rousseau@lrsd.org or 4471432.
With warm wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season filled with many special
moments,
