TEEN PROGRAM
YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT (Grades 7-12) (APY)
Now is the time to make your opinion count! Wouldn’t it be great if YOU made the rules? The Youth in
Government (YIG) program is a hands-on approach involving students in the legislative, executive, and
judicial branches of government. YIG encourages life-long responsible citizenship through the study of
public issues, debate of public policy, writing legislation, debating court cases, reporting on political news
and a weekend model government experience in the State Capital. If you like to debate or write, are
interested in how bills become laws and would enjoy a trip to Madison for a weekend in February, then
Youth in Government is the place for you! Contact Jolene Leurquin at 832.4951 or

ADULT SPECIALTY ENRICHMENT
ADULT CONTRACT BRIDGE (APY)
Beginner/Intermediate
Learn to play contract bridge or brush up on your game. If you are a beginner, come with several friends
to make a table of 4. Novices are welcome, however at least one table of 4 novice players is required for
instruction. Learning to play or continuing to play bridge keeps those neural pathways clicking, develops
new ones, and provides social interaction with other players. Top notch instruction from Joan Thibodeau.
LAUGHTER CLASS (APY)
The Zippity-Do-Da Laughter Class/Club meets on Wednesdays at 1:15 PM for about an hour. During a
Laughter Class, learn relaxed laughter through facilitated sessions led by a Certified Laughter Leader.
Studies show that improved health and heightened well-being are the result. Just like you do biceps curls
to improve biceps muscle strength and fitness, laughter exercises some of those harder to reach areas.
There are other physical actions that exercise parts of our insides, but laughter is by far the most effective
and fun (as well as socially acceptable!) The more you laugh, the more you "prevent hardening of the
attitudes". Practice positivity and positively, you will feel better. You do not have to “be a Club or Y
member” to enjoy this activity. Open to everyone. Five thousand groups worldwide. Class will meet
7-weeks.

PRIVATE COMPUTER INSTRUCTION/TUTORIALS
MICROSOFT OFFICE SOFTWARE & HAND-HELD GIZMOS (APY/TCC)
If you prefer to have an instructor/teacher spend time with just you, contact the Appleton YMCA Adult
department at 920.954.7610 about private computer instruction. Private and individualized instruction
from the introductory level to customized help with more advanced topics is available. In additional to
topics noted below, any subject covered in classes above can be taught privately. Let our experienced
instructors provide targeted assistance.
Students who use their computers on a regular basis, who understand their mouse, their keyboard – but
who continue to encounter obstacles and would like to learn more about particular features can benefit
from private lessons that address their particular needs. Increase proficiency of use in areas that interest
you. Choose file management, file extensions, print screen and uses, installing a printer or other
hardware, systems tools like “de-fragging” and hard disk clean-up, installing and un-installing software,

ADULT BUS TRIPS (APY)
For ages 18 (sometimes 21) to 108. Get on board! Head out of town and see some sights. Meet some
new people and visit some new (or favorite) places. Motor coach touring is not only a very safe way to
travel; it’s also a very green way to go. If you want to avoid the planning, the driving, the parking, try
taking a Y bus trip. You board and let a professional handle the driving. Look out the window, enjoy the
scenery, sit back and relax.

Winter Session 2: February 23-April 12, 2015
Register early if a trip interests you. Trips can fill very quickly and if you procrastinate, you may be left
behind. For some trips, we permit travelers age 9 and up to go provided they are accompanied by a
parent or legal guardian.
Each trip is geared to different levels of activity and vigor, and the trip description will provide a gauge, so
look at the Bus Booklet on this website (generally available later March annually), or pick up the complete
booklet in the Y lobby. Payment at the time of registration secures your seat. If all seats are filled, your
name may be added to a waiting list at no cost. Registration is in person at any YMCA of the Fox Cities
branch, on-line with a credit card through the Y website, and by phone with a credit card at 739.6135.
When you register, please verify your current address and telephone number with the Y
computer data.
Trips are organized by the Appleton YMCA Adult Department for all the branches, so if you have questions
or you’d like to be on our mailing list, please contact us at 954.7610.
As trips are developed before booklet publication (earlier in the year) and opened for registration, use the
on-line registration process with “Education and Leadership” as the department and “trip” as the sub
department. A link to the trips opens and you will be able to see the details for each trip currently
available. Complete descriptions and costs are available on the Y website under the 2015 Bus Trip link as
well as in the 2015 Adult Bus Trip Booklet.
CANCELLATION POLICY FOR ONE DAY BUS TRIPS
If a participant cancels at least 15 days PRIOR the trip, a full refund will be given. However, if a
component of the cost has been pre-paid by the Y, that amount will not be included in the refund.
Cancellations that occur inside a two-week window will not be refunded unless we have a waiting list for
the trip and are able to make a substitution. If a participant must cancel a trip due to illness or injury,
that person will receive a credit provided a written doctor’s explanation is submitted or the vacancy is
filled. Charges pre-paid by the Appleton YMCA, such as, but not limited to, theater or cruise tickets, are
not refunded. If the transportation company determines that it is unsafe to transport passengers due to
weather, the trip may be rescheduled and/or a credit issued.
